i thank you God

At our regular Praying Without Words gathering in March we reflected on the poem “i thank you God for most this amazing day” by e.e.cummings. Joy Tobler wrote the poem “I Thank You God” in response.

What do you feel thankful for?

i thank you God for most this amazing

day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees

and a blue true dream of a sky;and for everything

which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,

and this is the sun’s birthday;this is the birth

day of life and of love and wings:and of the gay

great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing

breathing any – lifted from the no

of all nothing – human merely being

doubt unimaginable You?

(now the ears of my ears awake and

now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

 E E Cummings

I THANK YOU GOD  (ref: e.e.cummings)

I thank You, God, for most this amazing universe –

for the glittering stars and the man in the moon,

for the planets and the Milky Way,

for lightning and rainbows,

the auroras and the glorious shining sun.

I thank You, God, for most this amazing world –

for blue seas and green forests,

for leopards and llamas,

for toucans and toadstools,

and flowers and insects and gemstones and all creation.

I thank You, God, for most this amazing humanity –

For inventors and philosophers,

for craftsmen and artists,

for explorers and preachers,

for friends and families.

I thank You, God, for most this amazing love –

for the incarnation of Your Son,

for His death for us on the cross,

for adopting us as Your children,

and for the hope of glory.

I thank You, God, for most Your amazing Being.
