Welcome to our new Chaplain, the Rev Joy Adams. Joy began her duties as Chaplain on March 1st, although she is a familiar face around Whirlow as she has been assisting Philip Roderick (previous Chaplain) since last July.
Joy writes, “I feel so privileged to be appointed Chaplain to Whirlow Spirituality Centre at this exciting time. I look forward to praying and working with the many people who contribute to and value Whirlow’s unique ministry.” Her Commissioning Service will be in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on March 15th at 7pm, all are welcome.
Joy is a Methodist minister from the Sheffield Circuit, and so her appointment is significant, lying as it does with our Anglican partner All Saints, Ecclesall. She is no stranger to working in an ecumenical context as her previous 13 year ministry was as founder and minister with pastoral oversight of The Terminus Initiative on Lowedges, Sheffield 8. The Terminus Initiative is a partnership of the local Anglican, Free Evangelical, Methodist and United Reformed churches. Before training for ordained ministry, Joy worked in the NHS and Department of Health, moving to Sheffield in 1978 to teach and then manage therapeutic radiographers at Weston Park Hospital.
Joy has been a leader of the Diocesan Art of Spiritual Accompaniment course for the last 6 years, is a member of the Spiritual Accompaniment Referral Group and is the Sheffield representative on the Regional training course for Supervisors of Spiritual Accompaniers hosted by the Notts. and Southwell Diocese.
Joy lives in Greenhill with her husband Brian Adams, they have 2 married sons, Nathan and Simeon and four grandchildren, Anya, Aleksa, Jada and Joel (pictured).
